Abstract
In recent decades, urban regeneration has emerged as a key strategy to address the challenges arising from declining environmental quality and economic vitality in inefficient urban areas. In Iran, the transition from a project-oriented approach to a neighborhood-oriented one, along with the establishment of local facilitative institutions, has not succeeded in achieving regeneration goals due to persistent centralized approaches in urban planning and management. Therefore, identifying effective management models to improve the conditions of inefficient urban fabric and strengthen local capacities is essential. This article aims to conduct a comprehensive analysis of the management patterns of the inefficient urban fabric of Hamedan over the past three decades, focusing on changes in urban management policies and strategies. The content extracted from this analysis aims to provide an effective management model. To achieve this objective, 45 relevant documents were reviewed, leading to the identification of 60 initial codes categorized into 16 concepts and 8 categories related to the characteristics and nature of inefficient urban fabric. This study not only highlights critical issues surrounding urban fabric management but also proposes specific models for effective management that can serve as a foundation for future research. The findings indicate that the management of inefficient urban fabric is significantly influenced by political, economic, and social changes, with managerial patterns shifting towards social and participatory approaches. Additionally, there is a pressing need for integrated and multidimensional strategies to enhance the management of these areas effectively.

Graphical Abstract

Clarifying the Conceptual Framework for Managing Inefficient Urban Fabric in the Last Three Decades: A Case Study of Hamedan

Highlights

  • Earthen dams are exposed to various failure mechanisms, such as cracking and hydraulic failure in the body of the dam.
  • Studies were conducted to evaluate geomechanical parameters effective in the occurrence of hydraulic failure and to understand the interaction of the dam body with these parameters.
  • Modeling of the problem was done with the finite element numerical method using PLAXIS computing code.
  • The results showed that the laboratory results presented in this research have a good overlap with the results of the software.
